Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Tablet 20GG002CGE Notebook Review

Congratulations to the ThinkPad X1 Tablet from Lenovo! In the test it is clear against the competition and can offer a whole series of highlights. Among the particular strengths here are the long battery life coupled with a short charging time, the bright and high-contrast display , as well as the fast processor. The equipment as a whole also inspires, whereby a larger connection variety would have been quite desirable. In addition, you have to do without a dedicated graphics card, which is irrelevant for everyday use but in most cases irrelevant.

The ThinkPad X1 Tablet presents itself as a fast and enduring convertible. It weighs only 1057 grams, making it one of the lightest units in this class. This makes it just as a mobile companion for the office a good figure. It has a 12 inch display with sharp display, but the colors look a little pale. In addition, the screen back reaches a temperature of more than 36 degrees above the ambient temperature during prolonged operation, which can be unpleasant in the long run.

The Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Tablet is a really good job when you’re on the move. The model takes a lot of praise for the computing performance as well as for the recharge time. The flexible concept, which allows simple extensions, is also good. Extra points are available for easy input via keyboard and stylus as well as for the great display, which is both bright and high-resolution. There are better models on the market in the areas of equipment, performance and optics, but the overall package is simply harmonious. The very compact form is definitely an advantage over the competition.

The model of Lenovo has to be measured with the Surface Pro 4 and the Galaxy TabPro S. Compared to these allows the ThinkPad X1 Tablet significantly better use in professional environments. This is mainly due to the outstanding hardware, but also the equipment is right. The package includes a mobile module for mobile Internet as well as Windows Hello. The excellent input devices should also be praised, because they make the handling particularly comfortable. An expandable memory is in vain for most other devices of this kind, but this is on board here. The recharge time, however, is a weak point, just like the speakers.

  • Very good display
  • passively cooled
  • Windows Hello, fingerprint scanner
  • Stable keyboard cover
  • Quality ThinkPad Pen
  • Connection diversity, extensions
  • Mobile radio option
  • Memory expandable and replaceable
  • Battery accessible
  • Absolutely silent operation
  • Flexibly expandable by modules
  • Bright, high-resolution display

  • Will be very hot under load
  • Flexible housing
  • Mediocre battery life
  • Weak speakers
  • Only a real USB port
  • Only chipset graphics

There is a USB terminal with dedicated controls for sound utility Asus Sonic Studio. According to information, headset accessories created as part of 10 years anniversary All ROG. Asus claims the design and technological expertise into one-of-a-kind gaming headset.

VR-ready Notebook Lenovo IdeaPad Y910 Hands-on

By Nvidia’s currently best graphics chip for laptops, the IdeaPad Y910 is optimally equipped for Virtual Reality. However, the keyboard is quite impressive. At Gamescom, we could make a brief hands-on with Lenovo’s new gamer notebook. [credit: Stefanie]

Fast technology, but tired Display

The IdeaPad Y910 comes with a 17-inch screen in full HD resolution (1920 x 1080 pixels). From the first, I was a bit disappointed because pixels were visible at first glance. After a few minutes, I had however already accustomed me. Since we were also allowed into the fresh air with the laptop, noticed that the display is not particularly bright. Actually, it is applied with anti-glare, but unfortunately, it reflects any way.

The processor can be seen: from the overclockable HK series you can leave everything to install an i7-6820HK. Given Nvidia’s new graphics chip GTX 1080 comes with eight gigabytes of storage and up to 64 gigabytes of RAM spread across four slots. Virtual reality glasses can thus be used without any problem. In RAID 0 array of two 512GB SSDs stuck in the housing. Also present is a hard drive with a terabyte. It is a pity, however, that the laptop is difficult to maintain.

Mechanical chiclet keyboard

Especially the keyboard it did to me. This is a mechanical chiclet keyboard. The individual keys are indeed flat, but it has nevertheless with the typical precision feel of a mechanical keyboard. Although here is not like the big flagship MSI are used Cherry switches, it is a completely different typing feel than normal keys. Very pleasant is the rubberized palm rest. Thus the hands are placed on non-slip. So the fingers fly over the keys more quickly and easily.

The setup is 2x USB 3.0, 2x USB 2.0, 1x Thunderbolt 3, microphones, audio, HDMI output, LAN, display port and a card reader. The battery should at least hold up to 3.5 hours – if that is the case with gaming or video streaming, Lenovo conceals us unfortunately. Overall, the power laptop brings 4.6 kg on the scales.

Preliminary Conclusions: very soft hit

Thanks to the good keyboard and the technical equipment, I am pleasantly surprised by a unit of the Lenovo IdeaPad series. So far, the models were more moderate – especially in quality. The gamer laptop is very well made and feels playing very pleasant too. The minimum price of 2799 Euro is but unlike the Medion devices, we have also looked at in a very high range. From October / November, the device should be available.

Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Yoga, The Rotation with the Rotary

An upper-class device as a Convertible: The Thinkpad X1 Yoga from Lenovo is usable from both sides. Does it work well?

thinkpad lenovo

Lenovo dares the new Thinkpad X1 a balancing act

It’s all about the design: Who takes the new Thinkpad X1 Yoga from Lenovo in the hand, will immediately recognize that this upper-class notebook on Thinkpad X1 Carbon oriented, so at the business unit of the Chinese producer. The two are siblings, each with extremely robust housing made of carbon fiber, splash-proof keyboard and 14-inch display. At prices that quickly reach the 2000 euro mark, you get cutting-edge technology with low weight (1.2 kg). The peculiarity of yoga is completely folding back the display, it is called a convertible. If you have the display is rotated, the device with the touch-sensitive display and a pen can use the keypad on the back you have to “think away”. Dieting does not turn the display.

Does the rotation with the rotation? Who thinks to use the notebook in this way also as a tablet, have to consider size (33 × 23 × 1.7 cm) and weight. That is a strand of tablet that you hold in any case with both hands. Pen and touch-sensitive display allows a good work, the pin takes the device a home, and its battery is being charged in the bracket. With the Handwriting recognition Write it from Lenovo can fill in fields in other apps.

But overall, we think that the Tablet mode rather makeshift and niche application remains. Not least, it should be noted that the rotary display is suitable for presenting. The connection between display and hull incorporate two metal clips, the mechanism is very sturdy.

All other details are consistent with the current Thinkpad X1 Carbon agree. Yoga can be flexibly configured, up to 16 gigabytes of memory are possible, the SSD can hold up to one terabyte. As the display can be the first to order a OLED display, it has a resolution of 2560 × 1440 pixels. With the same resolution, there is also a conventional IPS display. A third has to deal with the outmoded Full HD resolution (1920 × 1080 pixels) modest. The equipment is completely laudable: Mobile with LTE, Bluetooth, Mini-Display Port, HDMI, Micro SD, and three USB 3.0 jacks including as a biometric fingerprint scanner. The Intel HD Graphics 520 is sufficiently fast.

The 4-cell battery with 52 watt hours to achieve a running time of 11 hours, we can not confirm when trying out for several days. There are more 8 to 10. As disturbing we found the frequent anspringe through fans, which can be very clearly heard in quiet environments. Who does not need the folding screen, is better off with the conventional counterpart Thinkpad X1 Carbon – and also saves a few euros.
