Running Two Different SKU 970 Cards

Case: I am currently running two different SKU 970 cards.

  1. The 04G-P4-2974-KR (EVGA GeForce GTX 970 04G-P4-2974-KR 4GB SC GAMING w/ACX 2.0, Silent Cooling Graphics Card)
  2. The 04G-P4-3975-KR (EVGA GeForce GTX 970 04G-P4-3975-KR 4GB SSC GAMING w/ACX 2.0+, Whisper Silent Cooling Video Graphics Card.

One is listed as the SC and the other as the SSC version. One has a slightly higher clock than the other.

I have an ASRock Z77 Fatal1ty Professional motherboard.
My issue is that no matter the settings I cannot get the stupid things to SLI through the Nvidia control panel.

I have tried the SLI bridge in both positions as well as an HB bridge all with no change in results.

First, I think that one of two things may be happening.

  1. The cards just aren’t compatible in this way.
  2. I actually have the slower of the two cards in the first slot and the faster in the second. Since one of the two needs to be throttled back by the firmware/drivers the faster may “need” to be in the first slot.

Here is the solution when running two different SKU 970 cards has problem

You need to remove the glue holding the peen-stick receptor and replace it with thermal paste. The recon unit transponder gets too hot and once it raises above 39 kelvin units, the candela from the capacitation commuter charges and releases the glue to the undersea regulators. Very common with 970s.
