MG05ACA800: Toshiba’s hard drive server reach 8 TBytes


Toshiba has now also taken the hurdle of 8Tbytes of storage capacity in the class of enterprise hard drives. The 3.5-inch drive is called MG05ACA800 and uses the interface SATA 6 Gb / s. A suitability for continuous operation is self-evident, in addition, the HDD is designed for an annual transfer capacity of 550 TB.

At a rotational speed of 7,200 rpm, a continuous transmission rate of 230 MiB / s (approx. 241 MB / s) is to be achieved. As a rule, this is the value which is achieved only on the faster outer traces. The cache size is 128 MB. For the number of non-correctable read errors, Toshiba speaks of 10 in 1016 bits, which corresponds to 1 in 1015. Information about the possible load / unload cycles is not made.

No data are available on the number of magnetic disks. There is no question of helium filling, such as HGST, Seagate and Western Digital in high-capacity models. Toshiba’s storage capacity of 8 TB is the current maximum in the portfolio. Other manufacturers already offer up to 12 TBytes.

Toshiba with strong growth in the HDD market
